Hi to everybody!
Oftenly foreigners who come to Ukraine or Russia have some trouble with remembering names. Our names sounds very wierd and makes you uncomfortable.
Here I decided to create a list of the most popular names in Ukraine (and Russia).
We have maybe 30 popular names for boys and girls, which have mayby 80% of Ukrainians.
How you can call Ukrainians?
For example, in States it's normal to call somebody for surname. It's like officcial version - Mr. Nielson, Mrs. Daniels....
Ukrainians don't use surname in officcial way, because it will sound a little wierd.
This is used only at school, when teacher ask you come to the blackboard or at hospital.
(Or maybe in prison too)
So if you want to call Ukrainian, you must say name or name and father's name. Father's name is instead the second name.
Short variant
Also we have traditional short variant of name in Ukraine.
For example, girl with name Elizabeth you can call Bett, Liz, Betty, Betsey and any other way, just like she decided. We don't have this variety of name in Ukraine. If you are Elizabeth, your short name will be Liza and nothing else.
That's all that you need to know about Ukrainian's name.
